Segway Debuts Among Groans

Members of the public showed disdain to an east coast inventor after the disappointing debut of a next-generation transportation device. The Segway, a two-wheeled scooter modeled with a gyroscopic design, drew plenty of groans during its debut after more than a year of hype building on the part of designers.

Investors earlier said the device will revolutionize a new era of transportation, calling the Segway bigger than the Internet. Some went as far to say the Segway is to the car as the car was to the horse and buggy.

"That's nothing but a bunch of horse hooey," said Glen Telemaker, who saw reports on the morning news. "How is that piece of garbage any different than what old people ride around in at the grocery store."

Designers said the Segway is much different than elderly transportation scooters, although admitting they have a similar style. The device, earlier called by code names "It" and "Ginger," will go on sale to the public early next year. The device is controlled by the driver through leaning in the direction he or she would like to go. The maximum speed of the Segway is 17 mph.

"Yeah, that's bigger than the Internet alright," said Rob Tenanan of Newark. "I can run faster than that piece of crap."
