President Signs Airport Security LawPresident George W. Bush signed sweeping legislation this month meant to increase the level of security at American airports. Main items in the law include the federalizing of security checkpoint job positions. Some civil libertarians have problems with the little discussed provisions of the law. "The checkpoint idea I like, but I don't think Arab Americans should have to fly naked to make sure they don't have weapons," said Morton Quakenbush. He's not alone. "I agree with the jobs, but I don't think we should have to isolate 'strange looking people' to the luggage area," Allen Carlson said. Bush maintained that the new law will benefit the American economy by rebuilding confidence in the airline industry. "We do need to save our airlines," Thomas Goldberg said. "I guess I just don't understand why certain passengers have to wear signs that read, 'Kick me, I might be a terrorist.'" |
Bush isn't taking any chances when it comes to airport security. |
