Minnesota Woman Harboring Afghans

The FBI this week investigated the home of a Minnesota woman after intercepting phone calls indicating that she's harboring Afghans in her attic. Edith Shankbauer, 82, of Minnetonka, swears the only thing she has in her attic are blankets.

"I told them that afghan was just another name for a crocheted blanket, but those boys wouldn't listen to me," she said. "They're only blankets."

Agents, after finding blankets, kept strong survaillance on the home fearing that terrorists were on their way to hide in Shankbauer's attic. Shankbauer invited the agents in several times to enjoy cookies and milk. Shankbauer said her "afghans" were planned to be Christmas gifts for each of her six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and others. She said no foreigners are allowed in her home, much less allowed to hide in her attic.

FBI officials described the items in her attic as bright, happy and cuddly. "They're the perfect cover," one agent said. "That came out wrong. I mean disguising her attic as mere blanket storage is the perfect plan to hide terrorists."

Edith Shankbauer insists she's done nothing wrong
