FOOT IN THE DOOR OPENING 1/8/2000
Foot in the Door Opening at the
MIA
Pie en la Puerta en
el MIA
Over 1700 artists exhibit works at MAEP
(Minnesota Exhibition Artist Program) at The MIA, and just about everyone, Linda
and I included, have come for the opening. This is the closest that you get to
those shows that they use to have in France, where paintings would be plastered
all over the walls, with those works that were sure to get the ire of the public
(and possible damage with canes and umbrellas) positioned high enough to be out
of reach --think Manet's Olympia--. Well, there sure isn't that type of reaction
at this show, but enough people attend so that you need to wait in line, and
once in the gallery, move at a
crawl. This is very much of a formula
show, but it is also the most popular show in this gallery. The object is to
have an exhibition where the only limitations are of scale. 1 foot x 1 foot, and
in the case of 3d work, 1 more foot. This way you get to cover the gallery walls
from floor to ceiling. In any case, the show although overwhelming, is lots of
fun.Below are our entries, and a link
