Hella Model 550 Fog & Driving Lights
#76210 Fog Clear $69.95 Kit
#76110 Driving Clear $69.95 Kit

These 55W rack mounted driving and spreader lights keep the lenses out of harms way and up high to illuminate the hard to reach places when driving at night in the woods. The clear fog lights are angled outward to provide a spreader beam out to the sides while the driving lights provide added forward illumination up front.

These lights are sized such that they fit nicely in front of the ARB rack, sitting lower than the upper cross bar to keep them from being ripped off their mounts by low hanging branches. The center spreader lights sit on a custom mount created for the ARB rack, keeping the light mounts level for their off-to-the-side setting. While not the brightest lights in the store, they are plenty bright for the job at hand. If we were driving at height speeds in the desert, then 100W or 150W lights might be in order to keep us apprised of upcoming dangers.

To help keep people from playing with the dash switches, the (covered) main power switch for these lights lives on the main breaker panel which site in the back seat (See Switch & I/O Panel section for details of the main switch panel). To turn on the lights, this dedicated light breaker must be enabled. This main breaker supplies power to the lights via a set of relays, and well as providing power to the dash switches, which in turn are used to energize the individual relays. The three dash switches are used to power the relays for the front driving lights, the front facing spreader lights, and the rear loading lights.

The wiring harness that was originally routed from the main breaker panel to the to the center console included these 3 lines, so all that was needed is to hook up the switches. Forethought while running the main wiring bundle is a good thing. In the second seat compartment with the main breaker panel, three light relays are mounted which control the three sets of lights. From here a 3 conductor heavy gauge wire bundle is run along the inside wall, out and up through the rear air ducting cover and up to the rack, ending at a large connector.

A wiring harness attached to the rack is then plugged into this end and runs to the middle rear and the front of the rack, where the wires attach to the light wiring harness. The reason for the connector at the back of the rack is to facilitate the removal of the rack without having to remove the light's wiring.
