Modified Keyboard Layout for International English Keyboards
|
Updated 18-Apr-2004: New for German users, option-a, o and u now insert ä, ö and ü, respectively.
The international English keyboard layout for Macs are identical to the US keyboard layout except for one thing: the tilda key is in the wrong place. This is annoying if you are a Unix geek like me who often uses it as a shortcut to home directories. So I hacked together a Modified ISO keyboard layout which makes the key at that position act like the tilda key, with the help of this site at wordherd.com
You can download the keyboard layout here (11401 bytes). To use it, place the unzipped files in ~/Library/Keyboard Layouts/ or /Library/Keyboard Layouts/. You should be able to select this keyboard layout in System Preferences -> International, in the Input Menu tab.
In case you're interested, here is the "source code" used to create this keyboard layout:
§ $0060 ::back-tick S§ $007E ::tilde Oa $00E4 ::a-umlaut OSa $00C4 ::A-umlaut Oo $00F6 ::o-umlaut OSo $00D6 ::O-umlaut Ou $00FC ::u-umlaut OSu $00DC ::u-umlaut
