Institutional Preparation for Digital Storytelling Workshop

The following are requirements for a digital storytelling workshop:

Minimum number of projects: 6
Maximum number of projects: 12

Facility: at least two rooms adjacent to each other: one will be used for the hands-on workshop, the other can be a small, quiet room for recording audio. If food is not allowed in lab, then a larger second room will be needed for recording audio, which can also be used for breaks and lunches.

Timeline:

• 2 or 3 months before the workshop:
  • Confirm dates with Dr. Barrett
  • Arrange for facility
  • Advertize workshop and start taking registrations (Individual Preparation)
• 6 weeks before the workshop
  • Arrange for any academic credit approvals (if appropriate)
• 2 weeks before the workshop
• Confirm workshop viability ("go-no go" decision point)
• Finalize travel arrangements, lodging
• Arrange for tech support for workshop
• 1 week before the workshop
• Deadline for participant registration - Send Dr. Barrett a list of participants with e-mail addresses
• Order food for number of participants, plus tech support, plus two workshop leaders
• Copy handouts for workshop

• Order supplies for workshop
  • 2 blank CD-R discs for each participant
• Confirm that you have the latest update installed for your version of the software (i.e., iMovie 4.01)
• 1 day before the workshop
  • Check the facility, confirm number of participants with Food Service provider
  • Place handouts and supplies in facility
  • Bring in external hard drives (for backing up projects) and a few USB flash drives
