Miriam Rubenson will be focusing on cross country this fall but will be playing with the team on occasion. City Thunder Player Changes -- Jenny Kopulsky, Skylar Holmes, Dana Murphy and Cristina Bonilla will be joining us for the 2002/2003 year. Welcome to City Thunder girls. Rebecca Sharp is moving to Big Bear and leaving the team. We'll miss you Rebecca. June Route 66 Classic -- Two tough games on Saturday. Zero to 3 versus La Verne Lasers and 0 to 2 against Arsenal. Sunday went much better with a win over Claremont by a score of 2 to 0. March Orange Coast United Invatitional -- Another good tournament effort City Thunder wins two of three. The wins were over Murrieta Xtreme (3-2) and JUSA Select 87B (2-1) with the loss to OCU Rush (0-1). January Orange Coast United Invatitional -- City Thunder defeats the Wolves (2-0), ties San Gabriel Valley (1-1) and wins over Las Vegas Premiere (3-0) to go to the championship game for Flight B. The championship game against Mission Viejo is 0-0 through two overtimes with MVSC winning it in a shoot-out. Nitemares Classic -- Flight A Champions? City Thunder defeats CH Stampede (2-1), loses to Illusion (0-1) and ties PC Sting (0-0) to make it to the championship game for our flight. The game is canceled due to heavy rain and we are declared to be co-champions. League Cup -- City Thunder will start league cup on Saturday, October 20th at Cal State Fullerton. We will play two games: 1st Game -- 12:30pm vs Jusa Select 87A; 2nd Game -- 3:30pm vs Fullerton Attack. Change in Practice Times -- Effective immediately, pactices will end at 7:15pm. To be absolutely clear, practice will run from 5:30-7:30 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays. Soccer Bags -- The soccer bags have arrived and are having the names embroidered on them. The bags will be distributed at next Tuesday's practice. The cost will be $31 per bag. New City Thunder Player -- Monica Pires has joined the team. Monica played with the Santa Monica allstars and in the AYSO nationals. Welcome Monica. New City Thunder Player -- Miriam Rubenson has signed up. Miriam played for the West LA allstars. Welcome Miriam. Bronze West Bracket Announced -- This Fall we will be playing against the following teams: Coastal Quest Xtreme, Hawaiian Gardens Eagles, Manhattan Beach Hurricanes, Pacific Coast Sting, West Valley Samba, and West Valley Samba Blue. Quest Xtreme is a carry over from last season's Bronze West (1-12-1). Here is what happened to the other teams we played against last year: Long Beach Illusion (now called Cerritos Illusion) moved up to Silver Elite, Fullerton Attack moved up to Silver; Brea Blaze and Long Beach No Fear appear to have disbanded; Wolves have moved to Bronze South; and Quest United seems to have merged with Quest Xtreme. WSC Cup -- June 23rd & 24th, Thunder goes 1-2-1 with two goals each by Alyssa, Molly and Stephanie. New City Thunder Player -- Christina Toapanta has joined the team. She played for the Mid-Wilshire allstar team. Welcome Christina. New City Thunder Player -- Rebecca Sharp has signed onto the team. She plays defense, midfield and some goalie. Rebecca will be away all summer but will rejoin the team for the Fall League Season. Welcome Rebecca. Spring League Cup -- May 19th & 20th, Thunder traveled to Moreno Valley to play in the Spring League Cup. The team played short handed in losing two games but defeated the LaVerne Lazers 1-0 when there were 12 players.
