The 1988 Bacardi Limited Biennial is an exhibition of which the Bermuda National Gallery is particularly proud proud to show the best of the art Bermuda has produced in the past two years and proud to challenge our artists to do their best.Congratulations are in order for each of the 48 artists who participated in the jurying process, regardless of whether they were finally chosen as one of the 28 artists represented in this show. It takes a lot of courage to be judged, and without the commitment of these artists, there could be no exhibition. I was honoured to join a distinguished panel of international jurors: Dr. Daniel Rosenfeld, the Director of the Museum of American Art of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, and Dr. Lizetta LeFalle-Collins, formerly the curator of the African American Museum in Los Angeles and now an independent curator from California. She has curated on behalf of the United States for both the 22nd Sao Paulo Biennial and the 1st International Johannesburg Biennial. We congratulate our corporate sponsor, Bacardi Limited, for having the generosity to be the sole signature sponsor for the 1998 Biennial and for having the vision to support the Biennial into the millennium by sponsoring the 2000 and 2002 Biennial Exhibitions. |
