One of the aims of the Bermuda National Gallery is education. With this, our second Biennial, we have first of all educated ourselves with the chances to look at 284 works of art chosen by local artists as the best work each has done in the last two years. We set a stringent admission procedure to educate artists in methods of presenting their work in a professional way. Now we expect visitors to learn how talented our local artists are!

We thank Karl "Jerry" Craig from the University of the West Indies in Jamaica and Susan Cooke from the Whitney Museum in New York for joining me as jurors. They gave their expertise both to the selection of work and to the community as a whole with visits to the Bermuda College and several schools, working sessions with submitting artists and a lecture by Susan.

We are grateful that UNESCO provided funding to bring Jerry Craig to Bermuda and that The Bermuda Arts Council gave a generous grant to allow us to produce this brochure.
