We are fortunate this year in having two esteemed international jurors who brought with them a wealth of experience. David de la Torre, Deputy Director of the Honolulu Academy of Arts in Hawaii, and Susan Masuoka, Director of the Tufts University Gallery in Boston, are both from teaching institutions and well accustomed to giving constructive criticism when working with contemporary artists. Bacardi Limited deserves accolades for their generous support of the arts in Bermuda over the years and for their long-term view of supporting this exhibition. Their sponsorship spans three Biennials 1998, 2000, 2002 allowing the Bermuda National Gallery the luxury of planning ahead with confidence, the ability yo invite international jurors. Their support also allows us to print a catalogue which to date is still Bermuda's most complete record celebrating its contemporary artists. It has been a pleasure and an honour to work with Mr. James Amos and his colleagues at Bacardi Limited. We are very proud of our Biennial artists. It is fitting to pen this exhibition on the eight anniversary of the Bermuda National Gallery. As evidenced with the work submitted for this show, the visual arts are alive and vibrant in Bermuda. |
