artist statement
My Gombey paintings show men being creative in their costumes, drumming and dancing. I am reproducing some of the form of their art. the costumes have a pattern, repetition and rythm. I try to paint in a way that my colours, marks, brush strokes and surface textures capture those elements and give the viewer a sense of experiencing the movement and excitement of Gombeys dance. The excitement of the Gombeys is one of the things about Bermuda that I wish to share with the viewer.
