artist statement
I am an oil painter. I am generous with my application of the paint, employing a variety of implements and techniques to load the pigment onto the canvas. On location, I sometimes press small found objects into the paint, a habit that began when I brought back street paintingsfrom Mexico that contained dirt from the dusty streets I had been painting in. In my career as a chef, I worked in an intuitive fashion, and this is how I paint. read the recipe, digest, then discard it and let intuition take charge. recently, I have been revisiting the same locations and subject matter many times, queezing out and mulling over what drew me there in the first place. Investigating the massive chancges brought on by a vista of time, light, and season is intriguing. You become acquainted, but you never know it all.
