| My paintings are abstractions inspired by my response to cultural artifacts. I choose forms whose poetic qualities allow a wide range of subjective associations. My background in cultural anthropology informs these works as I explore how distillation of these objects may evoke a wide range of subjective associations. In my "Sabat" paintings, the form was inspired by my memories of burning palm crates, an everyday sight from the streets of Cairo. |
