| The diptych 'USA' is concerned with American culture and nationalism. The status of the 'stars and stripes' as one of the most recognizable and powerful icons in the world, means its presence is as much cultural as political sign. In light of the events of last September the semiological or symbolic role of the flag has changed. This more than anything is evidence of the adaptability and lasting power of modern icons. |
