Digital storytelling involves gathering information, images and video about a topic and presenting it in digital form. Sound, music, narration, and special effects can be added for a nice touch. Digital storytelling promotes project-based information-gathering, personal reflection, and authentic problem-solving. It can be done by teachers, who might use their stories to teach or interest students in a topic. Or it can be done by students themselves. When students create a story, whether about math or any other subject, a deep and rich level of learning takes place.
For this digital storytelling project, you will need a few resources:
- a digital camera
- a computer
- photo editing software, if you'd like or need to edit your photos: Photoshop Elements or Microsoft Paint are good choices
- a microphone for your computer, if you'd like to include a narration
- Microsoft Photo Story 3, a wonderful FREE program that can be downloaded by clicking the link
- several pictures of angles (or whatever you want to tell a story about): you can take your own or use mine
