BIO

Jerolyn is the frontwoman for her own small band, as well as the guitarist. Her welcoming smile and dry wit keep everybody encouraged. Here is an interview.

1. Describe your pre-Swag days. Were you in any other bands?
--I played in several praise bands and led various worship teams, mostly guitar and vocals but drums in one, tambourine and other percussion in a couple, brass and woodwinds in a few others.

2. Who or what inspired you to play the guitar?
--I've heard some really cool music being made with a guitar, and I knew immediately it was what I wanted.

3. What, exactly, is swag?
--Swag is unexpected loot you find, like buried treasure. For me, swag is the priceless treasure of God, God's promises to us, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

4. Tell us about your first public performance on electric guitar.
--I played a song that I’d written, and everybody in the the room just stared at me, pretty intently. I was starting to get a little anxious, but then everybody started clapping along to the music, and suddenly it felt pretty cool.

5. Earliest memory
--having tremendous fun playing piano duets with my mother

6. Favorite childhood toy.
--an Arctic Cat Climber mini-bike I won for getting the most sponsors and pledges turned in for a March of Dimes Walk-a-thon when I was ten. I really wanted that mini-bike, and my parents, with all the ballet and music lessons they were paying for and carting me to, weren't about to get one for me! I went through neighborhoods all around where I lived and where I went to school asking for sponsors. I’d go with my parents when they went to the mall, and ask people in the parking lot if they’d sponsor me; I even called people I’d never met out of the phone book! When the walkathon was over and I’d walked the 20 miles with my brother, my Dad drove me all over the metroplex after school and on weekends to collect on all of those 10 cents a mile pledges.... My brother and I had a blast riding it on all the bike trails near our house.

7. What's in your iPod right now?
--various Jerolyn mixes, Deathcab for Cutie, Puddle of Mudd, Amy Grant, Third Day, Dave Matthews, Ten Shekel Shirt, MuteMath, too many others to mention!

8. What album(s) made you want to be in a band?
--Owner of a Lonely Heart by Yes

9. Hobbies
--swimming, biking

10. Favorite TV show(s)
--House.

11. Best gift you've ever been given
--a brand new start each day, all sins forgiven, courtesy of Jesus. another cool gift was when my brother bought me my first electric guitar.

12. Favorite state / place you've been
--California seems like the great frontier to me.

13. Most annoying habit
--the same memory that helps me remember a poem we memorized in third grade sometimes replays stuff best forgotten.

14. Pet peeve
--people who join in disparaging someone because it is the popular thing to do.

15. Favorite movie(s)
--Alfred Hitchcock's North By Northwest; Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl.

16. Favorite superhero
--Batman, definitely.

17. If your WonderTwin Powers were activated, what would you be?
--someone who could swim through the air to get where she needed to go.

18. Embarrassing moment.
--one time I was running home to my apartment in the rain. I had my jacket pulled up covering my head, so I wouldn't get soaked. I ran up the front steps and flung open the door, and there were these strange people sitting on the floor watching TV, and the furniture was totally moved around. the people looked up at me with a puzzled expression on their faces. turns out I'd run up to the wrong apartment, about three units down from mine!

19. Favorite book
--A Wrinkle in Time, by Madeleine L’Engle.

20. Favorite character from a movie
--Edna, from The Incredibles-- I liked the way she didn't let ElastiGirl sit around feeling sorry for herself.

21. What do you hope to gain from your music career?
--I want to impact our culture for Christ Jesus. God's love, and God's Word are the only things that last. Loyalty is a very rare commodity these days. People tend to use you up and throw you out. But I've found walking in God's ways is a lot of fun, and God never uses you up and disposes of you. God renews me and fills my days with some really cool things and fascinating people. I find myself walking in a series of "this is the best day of my entire life so far!" days. I want to show kids and adults a fun alternative to drugs and sex for entertainment-- high energy music that's focused on the purest source of energy in the universe: Jesus, the Sun of Righteousness.
