Have You Noticed?

OK, here are some observations, which people have sent to me (or I’ve just made myself), that aren’t on the BBC site.

  1. “Queen”
    • This episode has a theme of lookalikes. There are the musician lookalikes, and Tribute Tribute Tom, but remember: the Queen uses a lookalike too!
  2. “Drink”
    • Dr Seuss (the scary but gorgeous David Walliams) speaks in rhyme, as was the style in his controversial children’s book,
    The Cat in the Hat.
  3. “Bookshop”
    • Most of these references are drawn from Notting Hill, but as I haven’t seen Notting Hill, I can’t give you any more.
    • Tamsin Greig’s fantastic—she was also in Black Books.
  4. “Sixties”
    • Nice to see someone taking the piss out of the appalling 11 O’Clock Show.
    • Obviously, The Cockneys are aping The Rutles.
  5. “Caine”
•The “Michael Caine, Michael Caine, Michael Caine” scene is a reference to Being John Malcovich, an excellent and original film, which is often referred to in this episode.
    • The phrase “My name is Michael Caine” is never said in this episode. Every time someone tries to say it, they are interrupted, or say something else.
  6. “Ladies”
