Graham Moffatt (1919–1965)

Graham Moffatt

Of all the films that Graham Moffatt worked on, about half were with Will Hay, in his Billy-Bunter style persona. His first with Hay was Where There’s a Will, before his voice had broken! After being dropped by Hay, Moffatt (and Marriott) went on to support Edmund Gwenn in Cheer Boys Cheer and Arthur Askey in The Band Wagon.

The last film Graham Moffatt made with Moore Marriott was in 1943, after which they went their separate ways.

Graham Moffatt left show business to run pubs with his wife Joyce, but appeared in many films up to the age of 44. He was licensee of the Swan Inn at Braybrook near Market Harborough, then The Englishcombe Inn, Englishcombe Lane, bath. Graham was landlord up until he died on July 2nd 1965. Joyce ran the pub for a little while longer then sold up.

Graham Moffatt’s ashes were scattered at sea.

Why not pay a homage to his pub next time you’re down that way?

Moffatt achieved some fame in the 1950s due to suffering a bout of hiccups that lasted several years. Details of this are available in the YahooGroup archive.
