Why on earth would you do that?

So what happened?

I know what you’re thinking, that’s not even close to the bowl I just saw. All is explained in the Common mishaps and what to watch out for when setting a stapler in jelly section later on. But let’s get on with the good stuff:

As you can see, it doesn’t always work. In fact, this was almost a complete disaster. What you see there is the result of prying the stapler off the mould and pushing it back into the jelly. This method does not give satisfactory results. However they did it in the series, they had a lot more skill than me.

Common mishaps and what to watch out for when setting a stapler in jelly

So, I hear you say, what went wrong?

Here’s a list:

  • Don’t buy a large stapler, a small one will work just as well and you won’t have to change bowls halfway through making the damn thing when you realise it doesn’t fit.
  • Work out how much water it will take to surround the jelly before you try diluting it with just one pack. This will save you the trouble of waiting for several hours for it to set only to find out that the ratio of gelatine to water is totally inappropriate, and then having to go out and spending another 78p each on two packets which is how many you’ve worked out it needs.
  • Don’t take photos of lemon jelly and then go on to set it in lime. It only confuses people.
  • Make sure that the second mould you’ve tried to fit the stapler in is big enough. It may still not be big enough even though it was easy to find and you don’t feel like finding an even more suitable one.
  • Don’t do it at all. Just eat the jelly, don’t waste it. There are people starving in the world.
  • Which I hate.

Argh! I can’t sleep!!!

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE STAPLER (and to a lesser extent, the inedible jelly)??
