Gareth
Keenan: Mackenzie Crook
About Gareth:
Assistant (to the) Regional Manager,
Team Leader.
Gareth Keenan is oddly happy with
his life working in a crappy sub-branch paper merchants. Definitely a
hard worker, and definitely a twat, Gareth likes to go out drinking with
his mate Oggy every night and cider is the drink that suits his needs.
Ex-territorial army, of which he is very proud, and in which he managed
to become a lieutenant. All we know about his hobbies is his keen interest
in all things military, and his famous renovation job on a TR3. Hes
also very anal about stationary and his desk space.
Used to be a milk monitor at school.
In summary: a twat.
According to Gervais: We
wanted him to have a slight West Country accent because he had to
have that wide-eyed,
innocent thing. Theres almost a cuteness about him. According
to Mackenzie, his part was originally written for the series co-writer
Stephen Merchant, who does have a very similar accent to Gareth if
youve
ever heard him on XFM with Gervais.
About Mackenzie:
Its likely that Messers
Gervais and Crook met on the 11 O' Clock show at some time, Mackenzie
joined in
its second series, Gervais in its third. However, Mackenzie
has been doing stand up for about eight years all around the UK.
From
what Ive gathered he does a selection of characters, the most
popular being a demented teacher called Mr. Bagshaw. At the moment
hes developing
a script based around this character for TV, or the theatre, or a
straight to video release.
He was once described by Martin Freeman
as a fool and a charlatan.
According to one source, he made
a film on the Isle of Man with Christina Ricci. According to every other
source, he didnt.
Mackenzie admires the work of
Jack Lemmon.
Mackenzies actual appearances
include the TV shows Comedy Cafe and TV To Go, and the British film
Still
Crazy about an aging rock band. I have not seen this film and none
of the reviews Ive read give any indication into how successful
his characterisation of Dutch Kid was. The less said
about TV To Go the better, but just to assure you that you didnt
miss anything:
TV To Go must be the worst
new comedy show of the year. After its dismal start the BBC1 series surprised
everyone and got worse.

Mackenzie Crook has worked in
an office, possibly two, in his life.
