Who is he? Peter Richardson is one of the most important figures in British comedy (but then as a Stella Street fan I would say that). He opened the alternative alternative comedy club in 1980 (the Comic Strip) and with it launched the careers of Rik Mayall and Ade Edmonson, French and Saunders, Nigel Planer, Robbie Coltrane, Alexei Sayle and Jack Nicholson. The defining British comedy of the 1980s was the Comic Strip, which was the first comedy programme on the new Channel 4 in 1983 (Five Go Mad in Dorset, the comedy equivalent of Countdown). Richardsons humour is as fresh and original today as it was when he first put it on film. Whilst usually considered a behind-the-camera person, he has often acted in the Comic Strip and did voice-overs in Glam Metal Detectives. A highlight is the Comic Strip episode The Strike, where he plays Al Pacino as Arthur Scargill to Dawn Frenchs Meryl Streep (a touch of the juxtaposition later to be used to such effect in Stella Street). He has three sons and lives in the West Country (Devon). This page will soon be reformatted. Bear with me. What has he done?
