My Guide to Guitar Strings

Augustine Blue

Albert Augustine was the man responsible for bringing nylon guitar strings to us and deserves much credit for that. These are nice-sounding strings that are good for a learner because of their relatively low tension. I have found them to wear out too fast though.

Aranjuez concert 400

Lovely strings that are extremely vibrant and crisp. Sadly, Aranjuez started experiencing some tuning problems several years ago which it took them a long time to rectify. Beautiful, if you can get a set that will tune well.

Hannabach

I tried these strings many years ago and never really got on with them. I found them too restrained for my tastes and frankly they sounded a little dead, even on my Ramirez!

Savarez

Some interesting sounds were had out of these strings though I never found myself falling in love with the sound. The wound G string on some sets was also very strange to me.

D’addario Pro Arté

My absolute favourite string of the moment. They have a lovely tone, are loud, consistent of tuning and have a longevity that suites a concert guitarist. Not to mention, a tight budget!

If you have any reviews of strings you’d like to add, please contact me.
