The monotheistic faith in the resurrection holds the belief that we will meet our loved ones again in heaven. The secular humanist belief that humans are an organism growing forever smarter and wiser, may also hold a place of faith that we will all meet again. Perhaps in the distant future of millions of years from now, living machines with a vast and superior intelligence who we would look up to as Gods, may one day inherit this world. They may excavate our planet seeking to understand their creators just as humans have excavated the Earth in search for evidence of ours. Perhaps these beings will possess such superior technology that it would allow them to reassemble the past in the same way we would piece together a jigsaw puzzle. They may resurrect us all, and project the universe in backwards succession like a movie inside of a multiverse. This scenario actually doesn't sound too far fetched compared to some ideas from scientists who theorize the universe will eventually end with a big crunch where everything goes backwards in time. “The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends. I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it? A Death! What's that, a bonus? I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you're too young, you get a gold watch, you go to work. You work forty years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You do drugs, alcohol, you party, you get ready for high school. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a little baby, you go back into the womb, you spend your last nine months floating... ...and you finish off as an orgasm.” -- George Carlin |
