In Star Wars Episode I, The Phantom Menace, there is a council of wise beings who instruct and guide the Jedi Knights; guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy.

Twelve members serve on the Jedi Council, each diverse individual being having their own unique insight and wisdom about the Force.

Some of the members are elders like Yoda and have a much deeper understanding of the cosmos as well as a higher Midi-Chlorian count than the others. Regardless of their diversity, the Jedi Council is at one in purpose; to obey the will of the living Force.

Star Wars is a good example of art imitating life. Like the Star Wars universe, humanity struggles with its darker side. An uneasy balance exists between these two conflicting polarities. Life is under a constant threat, not by the Death Star but by nuclear weapons.
