Vote Yes on Prop 2, but not because a dancing pig tells you too

And don't think that means the job is done either!

I am planning to vote Yes on Prop 2 here in California. It sets some minimal guidelines for farmers to avoid some of the most egregious forms of torture to which food animals are subjected.

I'm not jumping up and down with joy thinking this Proposition will solve the problems, and it certainly in no way would send me off to order a burger, or even an omelet.

But I think it's an incremental step that we should take if we can get people to actually think about it and agree to it. I hope it can the start of more consciousness and more action. I'm sure some think I'm naive.

SuperVegan pointed me to the HSUS (Humane Society of the US) animated ad urging people to vote yes. It features a dancing pig. You can view it here. It makes the blogger at SuperVegan happy.

It made me cry.

I had been hanging on to the link, meaning to blog about it, but not sure why I could dance and sing like the blogger from SuperVegan. Good thing I've got Stephanie Ernst from Change.org's Animal Rights blog to turn to. She nails it.

Prop 2 only addresses the tip of the iceberg. And it make suffering look cute. I know it's supposed to appeal to folks in a non-threatening way, but it crosses the line into pure disingenuous fantasy.
