Good Luck with that Senator Snowe


And will anyone else follow Senator Specter to the Democratic dark side?

In the wake of Arlen Specter's switch over to the Democratic Party, Senator Olympia Snowe, a moderate Republican, has written an Op-Ed basically begging her party to stop being the part of religious ideology and go back to the part of being fiscal conservatives and hawks who believed in butting out of almost everything else.

All I can say is "good luck with that". She is not the first to make this argument...every moderate republican makes it at some point.

And they are ignored.

You know, it's not like the Dems don't have their own crazy extreme wing...and that wing can't stand it that most Dems try to appeal to the Independents and even moderate Republicans more than they try to appeal to the ultra-lefties.

The Republicans, on the other hand, seem way more concerned about appealing to their most extreme wing, rather than ignoring them to focus on the center.

Do some left-wingers end up voting Green or some other third party (or just stay home)? Yes, some do. And some right-wingers will stay home too the minute the Republicans stop kowtowing to them. But I think they're going to have to experiment with that to see whether they can revive their fortunes.

I just think that poor Senator Snowe will be disappointed t learn that there is probably lower the Republicans will have to sink before they wake up and try her suggestions.

Agree? Disagree? What will the Reps do next?
