What is Seal up to?

Besides appearing on Eli Stone, which I will probably have to miss :(

Well, looks like he's releasing a new album soon, yay! Also looks like it's going to be a cover album of classicSoul hits. Hmm.

The song list is fine, including both a few of the expected, and a little unexpected.

Soul:
"A Change Is Gonna Come" (Sam Cooke)
"I Can't Stand The Rain" (Ann Pebbles)
"It's A Man's Man's Man's World" (James Brown)
"Knock on Wood" (Eddie Floyd)
"I've Been Loving You Too Long" (Otis Redding
"Here I Am (Come And Take Me)" (Al Green)
"If You Don't Know Me By Now" (Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes)
"It's Alright" (The Impressions)
"I'm Still in Love With You" (Al Green)
"Free" (Deniece Williams)
"People Get Ready" (The Impressions)

I'm sure I'll buy it, but can I be honest and say: I'd rather have a new album of original Seal stuff than an album of covers (of songs which have mostly all been covered numerous times before)? You can watch the video for "A Change is Gonna Come" here. It's definitely nice; it fits his vocal stylings well and vice versa. But I loves me some original Seal. That's alls I'm sayin'.

I really like cover albums sometimes...if they take songs and really can add their own juice to it. Shawn Colvin's "Cover Girl" is an awesome album, one of my favorites, but she brings something unique to songs, does them in an unexpected way. Doing fairly rote versions of classics? Not so appealing to me.

What do you think?
