If you're in NYC the new Darwin exhibit sounds like a must-see

Giving me my 2nd reason to return soon to NY (the 1st being "Sweeney Todd")

Stephen Hawking so kindly gave me a perfect segue with his comments about evolution in my last post.

There is a new exhibit about Darwin the man, and his theories, at the Museum of Natural History in NYC.

As an adult I tend to favor the Impressionist section at the Met and the occasional trip to the MOMA. I'm a bit of an odd bird in that I like to go back again and again to those things which I know will please me. I read books over. I could see certain movies regularly. And I love going to see the Van Gogh's or Monet's Nympheas repeatedly. They are as beautiful to me on the 10h viewing as they were on the first.

When I was a child, however, my favorite museum was the Museum of Natural History. For two reasons: dinosaurs and dioramas. I loved looking at the big fossils, especially the Tyrannosaurus Rex in the center of the dinosaur section, and I loved looking at the dioramas depicting various scenes of animals in their "natural" habitat. Of course now taxidermy gives me the creeps, but in fact it's probably better still than seeing some poor live animal cooped up in such "natural" habitats at the zoo.

Anyway, I'm really dying to see the new "Sweeney Todd" and this Darwin exhibit sounds like a great reason to go back to what was once my favorite museum for the first time in years.

Hmmm. I wonder if they'll both still be around in April? Not exactly a big fan of NY in winter.
