New Mac Ads: 1 out of 3 ain't bad
(And I'm only blogging it because someone's blog
software is not accepting my comments via...yes!...a Mac.)
Darren over at ProBlogger provides links to three new Mac ads from Apple,
averring that they "say it all."He
links to all three, but actually embeds the video for one particular ads, called
Better
Results.The other two are
called Counselor and Self-Pity.Go
ahead, go watch them, I'll wait. (And they're only <30 seconds each, so you
won't be gone too long.)So, what did
you think?I tried to leave a comment
on Darren's blog about what I think, but it failed each time I tried. Could it
be that there's some glitch with his blog commenting application working in
Safari, the Mac browser? That would be
ironic. So, here is the comment I
wanted to leave:Actually I
think only the "Self-Pity" ad is truly effective.
"Counselor" is lame
because Apple shouldn't perpetuate this notion that they're mostly good for
creative stuff and that there's something uncool about stuff like spreadsheets
and word processing...I mean MOST people actually need to do that boring stuff,
and saying Macs are mostly good for the "Life" stuff is practically begging to
be considered a luxury product rather than a necessity. Our economy ain't that
good."Better Results"?
Hey, call me hypersensitive, but using the hot woman as a "better result"
example, and even saying "looks almost professional, doesn't she"...I understand
sex sells, but this isn't even clever or subtle. It's hot chick vs. man in drag.
Way too neanderthal for
Apple.PS-I'm a Mac
user...I started out using it for "life" reasons, but it's the fact that I can
use it for "work" reasons what prompted me to buy the second
one!I have not been won over by
these Mac vs. PC ads in general (mostly because John Hodgman as the PC is more
endearing and likable than smarmy Mac dude...which kind of detracts from the
point, right?) But the hot chick vs. man in drag "Better Results" ad...it
approached offensive, which I don't expect from
Apple.So, what do you think?
