Details on my appearance at the Espresso Garden Cafe

I'm singing one oldie-but-goodie chestnut and one little-known work by a famous composer

Here are the details:

Brad Handshy and the Espresso Garden & Cafe present:

A Stephen Sondheim 75th Birthday Celebration
Noted composer Stephen Sondheim will turn 75 years old in March 2005, and this concert will be a special celebration. There's a twist, though: The songs performed aren't by Sondheim, but rather songs that he admires. 5 years ago on the occasion of his 70th birthday Sondheim drew up a list of the "Songs I Wish I'd Written (at least in part)"

There will be 12 performers, many of whom I've worked with before, all of whom have wonderful voices. The song list represents a huge variety, from a Spanish art song to many a Broadway tune...known and unknown.

Dates: Wednesday March 30th & Thursday March 31st
Time: 7:30 PM
Tickets: $12
Reservations (recommended): 408-298-0808

Location:
Espresso Garden & Cafe
814 S. Bascom Avenue in San Jose (between Moorpark & Fruitdale)

Doors open 1 hour prior to show time. The Espresso Garden & Cafe has a nice little menu.

It's a fairly intimate space. I highly recommend reserving ahead AND showing up early to get a good seat and eat your dinner in comfort.

Let's see, shall I give you hints about the songs I'm singing? Why not:

Song #1: Famous belter's number written by a composer who is enjoying a revival this year, with a new book being published about his life and a retrospective coming to the San Francisco Performing Arts Library & Museum this year. There is much irony to be found in me, the long-time vegetarian, singing this number.

Song #2: Unknown piece from recently-deceased Broadway composer. A Broadway veteran is using it in her current cabaret act, as recently reported on Playbill.com.
