Today's iTunes Purchases: 10/11/05

I'm a little bit country; I'm a little bit rock 'n' roll

And I'm a little bit reality TV.

First the country: Kicked off today's iTunes purchases by buying Dolly Parton's new album of covers from the 60s and 70s, Those Were The Days. I have to say if your only impression of Parton is her somewhat little-girl winsome songs, you're missing out on her more mature, kick-ass and take no prisoners sound. The woman can wail. I'm not sure these are my favorite musical selections of all time, but her arrangements give them a fresh sound.

The the rock 'n' roll: Also indulged myself with Paul Weller's new album, As Is Now. Paul sounds a bit older and a bit bluesier than his Jam or Sty;e Council days. It's a somewhat surprising album in that respect. But will definitely get some repeat listens.

As for the reality TV: I bought two singles from reality TV singer, first came the single Hypothetically, which features American Idol winner Fantasia. It's a pretty standard R&B groove, and she does just fine. Doesn't feature her enough for my taste, though. Next was Trees, a single by the Rock Star: INXS runner-up, Marty Casey. his was mostly a $.99 show of support for Casey, who I thought had a lot of talent and who I definitely admired throughout the competition far more than the eventual winner. Wouldn't say I ove, love, love this song, though. I'd rather have a recording of Casey singing Wish You Were Here or even Creep than this.

There you have it. Another week, another $20 spent at iTunes!
