All You Need to Know: It's a Chick Day

Sure, I picked up today's Free Download, High, by James Blunt.

But today was about the chick rockers, Fiona Apple and Liz Phair.

Fiona Apple's album Extraordinary Machine is exactly as you would imagine it to be. The best part about her music continues to be her deep, supple voice. The music gets a bit Tori Amos-like. Don't get me wrong, I loves me some Tori, with the operative word being "some." With both Apple and Amos some of their songs are a bit too precious, some a bit too over the top. But you wade through that to get to those songs that are simple and true.

Liz Phair, makes is official with this album, Somebody's Miracle: she is Matthew Sweet's female doppelganger. Frankly I don't own Exile in Guyville, gasp of horror, and I don't notice her latest work being any more pop-oriented than her other post-Guyville work. It's tuneful, diverse, and very cleanly produced. I dig it; I must be a sell-out too :)

That was it for today.
