Today's Shuffle: 02/08/05
Today's Shuffle reminds me that music is the
podcast-killer for me
Seriously, I've been wondering why podcasts have
yet to pull me in. I can't really listen to them the way I read blogs. I can't
skim a bit while waiting for a download to finish or for a page to load. I can't
skip to the interesting parts (at least easily.) No, podcasts seem like
something where you have tos et aside the 20 or 30 or 45 minutes and
listen.That's
just not going to happen during my regular day...I'm a busy, multitasking Worker Bee. music
can live in the background, not
talking. So, I know that most people
think podcasts are perfect for listening to while driving. They have told me the
same thing about audiobooks. But the car is where I listen to my beloved iPod
(on shuffle nearly exclusively I might add.) Driving and music just go together.
They don't make car commercials with some guy speeding along listening to talk
radio do they? No, it's music. It's just that simple to me...music is the killer
app. Or at least, for me, it kills
podcasts. And like this blogger, I have over 10K songs on my iPod,
so a nearly endless supply of music...much of which still comes as a surprise to
me!Just look at Today's 1st Ten in the

kind of female heavy...and before you know it I descend into the realm of cheesy
male duos! But damned if it doesn't take me back and remind me that yes, I, snob
that I am, can still enjoy cheesy music
sometimes! Why would I want to spend
all my time listening to other people, when I can listen to the forgotten
soundtrack of my life and my musical
taste?I spend all day every day with
words...writing, reading. Yes, I know music comes with words, but it's
different. And that difference? Makes all the difference to me.
