Today's Shuffle: 01/31/05

I'm staying in all day, feeling slothful...it's for a good reason, but only blogging and music will make it enjoyable.

OK, this story is just going to make me seem odd, but I don't care.

Back when I started Worker Bees I converted to receiving health coverage via my SO's company as a Domestic Partner. When he was laid off, we were still both covered under COBRA. Although ridiculously expensive, it was great to have coverage guaranteed. Last month the SO got a job with the Evil Empire, and I was very disappointed (pissed? shocked?) to discover that their domestic partner coverage is only for same-sex partners...hence I was not eligible!

Well, it was not practical at all to continue to pay for two people via the COBRA, so I set about finding individual coverage. Luckily I was accepted by both insurers with whom I applied. and here's my little gamble:

My new coverage starts tomorrow, Feb. 1st. The COBRA coverage has a 30-day grace period. In other words, your coverage doesn't cease until you've missed your payment by 30 days. So, I simply never paid January's premium, figuring if something happened where I needed to go to the doctor, i'd pay it, but otherwise I'd save myself nearly $1K.

So today is the last day I have to keep myself out of medical trouble, and I somewhat superstitiously decided to stay in the house. [Yes, I know many accidents happen at home.]

But you know how once you feel like you have to do something, it becomes burdensome? There are many days I work at home and end up not going anywhere. (Sad to say, I even work in my sweats all day.) But now because I've decided I should stay in, all of a sudden I want to get out and do something. The gym. A walk. I'm even dreaming of grocery shopping...which I usually hate.

Luckily there is plenty to keep me busy: blogging to do, a SEA program to create, including a custom landing page to design, and, of course, music to keep me company.
