Today's Shuffle: 03/04/05

Timeless artists...who are their equivalents today?

The Jet Set by Joe Jackson
So Sincere by Christine McVie
Scared Are You? by Better Than Ezra
Am I Right? by Erasure
Money Tight by Earth, Wind & Fire
Prayer for the Dying (Acoustic) by Seal
Legalize Me by The Pretenders
America Is Not The World by Morrissey
Except the New Girl by Chris Isaak
Super Magic 2000 by Chris Isaak

With the exception of Better Than Ezra, every artist in Today's Shuffle has had a nearly two-decade career. So the question becomes, who are their equivalents today?

Who's going to be the cranky punk artiste who branches our into nearly classical music forms, like Joe Jackson? Maybe Green Day.

Who's going to be the dependable non-front man/woman who finally breaks away to explore his/her own music, like Christine McVie? How about the chick from Black Eyed Peas!?

Who are going to be the dance music divos, like Erasure? Dirty Vegas?

Who are going to be the touch chick rock band, like the Pretenders? No Doubt?

And so on. I know every generation thinks only their music is timeless and will never grow cliched or outdated. So, I'm trying not to be generationist (my made-up word for today) and think about those young artists of today who will be still making relevant music in twenty years. My initial thoughts:

Alicia Keys
Beck
Coldplay
Pink
Rufus Wainwright
