The Haul Bah! Took too long of a nap and woke up to FIL calling to see if he can drop off the registration, etc. - but E left with the car an hour ago. I hope he doesn't get stopped...Ack. I also woke up in the middle of an awful - but not really remembered - nightmare. I hate that feeling! Exhausted now, but the bee auction was really fun. Matt was there to meet us and we drove with Mary, the local beekeeper who sold us our bees. We did much better then I thought we would - we brought 100 bucks in cash, and before the auction even started, bought a great 2 frame stainless steel extractor for only $65 - must less then it would have gone up for considering how high people were bidding things....most started at a minimum bid of 100 dollars and went much higher! (the lowest priced extractor new is 200 dollars...) We bid on and won a beesuit (fits E), veil, gloves, and beebrush for me, and the beginning of next year's hive - a hive body, body board, inner and outer cover, a feeder like the one we used on our first hive this year, and an extra (in worse shape) bottom board and inner cover. We still need a second hive body and some shallow supers and frames for next year but I'm glad we picked all of this up now! We can go and buy one of the lady's second hive bodies and her last shallow super nearby, so we may do that next weekend. We'll see how the budget looks - 100 bux on bee stuff, and 100+ on Harri's checkup and vaccines yesterday. We may need some time to recover - at least till I see a paycheck from work - it's been 3 weeks. :( We're thrilled with the extractor though - we didn't think we'd be able to find one, especially at such an absolute steal - very cool. We might be able to use Mary's if we asked super nicely :) but y'all know we're all about self sufficiency here at the homestead :) OK - goats are still out and I slept too long and E's on the road without his paperworkl - gah! Off to run around for a bit, then I think I'll quilt and work on my latest purge project -the remains of my office. p.s. Daisy is looking better every day - today she was out and when I walked over she gave me a swipe with her tongue and then used me as a post to clamber up to the grapevine that she couldn't reach - too funny. Goats are great! .
