Sit down and Write, Woman....

I'm figuring out one of the wee problems with using I-Blog - I can write/edit/and procrastinate about publishing an entry for forever - when I finally noticed that my last post was Monday, I was in awe - but anyway, it was one of those weeks: stumble out of bed, throw on slacks and a knit shirt, hopefully unwrinkled, throw hot water in hair to tame it down, teach, come home, zzzzzzzz till E gets home/dog wakes me up/other duties call. I do think as I mentioned in my other post that it had something to do with the time change/my period/etc. but I'm hoping my body will behave a bit more normally this week. Some updates... read more....

* To answer Lisa's question, Bartleby the chameleon seems to be on the long slow road to recovery - no infection has come up (yay!) and he has been eating a bit - all good signs that he will get through this and adapt to life with one eye. Maybe we can even breed him in the Spring? Problem with chams is that they are strictly solitary, so I would rather not get another male, as that would mean yet another cham cage with all of the finicky technology involved in these delicate creatures' upkeep.

* For Halloween/Samhain (we celebrate both - what the heck... we also celebrate Day of the Dead, so what's another fall harvest/death festival anyhow!) I made gingerbread haunted houses for the second year now - slight improvements included baking all the pieces for one house at one time, so I could work on frosting it while others baked - necessity is the mother of invention - and leaving the roof pieces loose so I could fill the houses with candy before I gave them away - I made three small ones to give to people at work and my folks (E's parents have major issues with Halloween of a born again Christian nature so we just don't go there) and then a big one for our party here at the Homestead. Here's a little preview - hopefully I'll get a complete description up on my Project Page by the end of the weekend....

* The litigation stuff going on at work is just crazy, and with teachers getting sued or being threatened with lawsuits at the drop of a hat, I've decided not to continue with my alumni contact "duties" - the man who asked me to volunteer (to talk about Cornell with kids who had applied to give them a better feel for the place) was nice, and I've enjoyed speaking at information programs to an audience, but meeting one on one with kids who I have/may have as students in the future one on one is just too risky. Ridiculous that it is, but all current events and advice from colleagues point to the fact that all one kid has to do is decide to go to a different school because of my info and a parent could easily slap me with legal action for having undue influence...Crazy world we live in. I'd rather spend my time and energy on loving up my family and making our little homestead thrive anyhow...sometimes when the world outside is crazy, you just need to turn your energies inward for a while.

* I don't have to get a new Mantoux test - HOORAY! My brave, dashing lawyer husband went to my scary old place of employment and got my Mantoux certificate from the school nurse there while he was off on Friday, thereby sparing me that whole scenario. I am a very grateful love. I have to get a physical, but I can do that on my own.

* Old favorite blogs have returned - namely, Plain Layne just couldn't stay away so has modified her schedule to give herself wee bits of on-going blog time. I count the chance to read about her upcoming wedding to Lauren and European honeymoon among my blessings - thanks for sharing, Layne....

Have I covered everything? :)
