Halloween on The Homestead

Whew - what a hoedown was had, is all I can say. We're still recovering. It was a great party though, and a wonderful way to welcome everyone to our new home -they fell in love with it (almost) as quickly as we did. :) I'll be posting full pics in our photo album soon.... A brief run-down of the wild times to be had here on the farm? read more....

* 3-7: I came home from work and E had gotten quite a bit accomplished, finishing the coop up for Saturday's new arrivals, shopping, and decorating for the festivities. Since Kerry had the tap-lihts essential to my costume,I didn't worry about that till she got here. In a mad frenzy, I carved three jack o' lanterns - me, E, and of course, one of the dog!, roasted the pumpkin seeds for snacks, mixed up a batch of herbed Italian bread dough for pizza rolls, and put out some of the snacks.

* E's mom came over in a weird mood - we went out to get E a chiminea which she had wanted to do and found a fab one at Home Depot - cast iron, with openings on all sides and even decorated with ferns which were the theme at our wedding and surround our new house.... When we got back though, she was techy again about the fact that we were celebrating Halloween and kept E busy trying to start a fire for her - all our wood was wet, so she eventually went out and got some but the whole situation was hard and weird ~ we were super thankful for the gift, but our guests were arriving and she was just sitting there upset, demanding a fire from E when there was no way he could start one - not to mention he wasn't able to greet our guests or change in to his costume....family, you gotta love 'em. A fire was started, and she seemed a bit happier when she left...tricky situation though.

* Kerry and Benge got here at 7 - as you can see here, they were dead snorklers - Ker is the queen of costume ideas and follow through - last year they were a fabulous Frankenstein and Bride of duo....We put out food and drinks, made my costume, and circulated... :) Here's anea tpic of Benge E snapped...I'm waiting for the others that Ker took on her camera....

* The party raged long into the night (well, not "raged"; we're not really that sort) with (since E and I don't drink alcohol we leave it up to our guests at big festivities like this to provide the alcoholic beverages) some good beer brought and consumed, some cheap but plentiful beer bought and consumed, a cocktail called "Nightmare" made many times over, DJing by E, Benge, and some of my little bro's friends, many sugary treats eaten, followed by an apple bobbing contest, a fierce donut eating competition, and a bunch of the guys playing a game of "Nightmare" - an old video board-game they have fallen in love with and take any opportunity to play while Amy, Ker, Miranda and I sat outside and chatted by the chiminea - the weather was great. By 3 AM we closed our eyes to the wreckage and crawled into bed, exhausted but happy.

* What were we you ask? The couple from Electric Six's video for "Danger: High Voltage " The costumes turned our very, very, well. Again, our digicam was out of batteries so I'll have to wait for Kerry's to arrive.
