Sunday Morning

No meeting this am, since E is at his first touch football league practice (he was very excited this morning, even though after running around all night he never did find his old cleats). Gi and I had breakfast, vacuumed, and put some laundry away, and now hopefully she'll nap so I can finish a worksheet I'd like to hand out on Monday.

We lost another 5 chicks out of the feed store batch to more of the mysterious illness that's striking them down, so E will hopefully be able to get a refund today...we never lose chicks like that, and the others in the brooder (from another company) are thriving. My applique baby quilt is finished and on its way to its new home today, and I'm picking out fabric to try one of Hillary's pointy kitties for a little friend we're meeting at the farmer's market next week. Oh, and speaking of, what a market day. We sold out, literally, of every last thing before 1, which almost never happens. We even packed up early! The kale sold quickly, though our yield would have been better with another application of Bt last week. We'll be more diligent about that this coming week, since the cabbage lopers have returned with the cooler weather. Our sunflower harvest has dried nicely, and we're in the process of cleaning and packing the seeds for sale. We love sunflowers in all their forms around here.

Delia hasn't kidded yet, but the two kids we de-horned just lost their scabs and I think we did an ok job. It certainly doesn't look like their horns will be growing in. (Faunus lost one of his scabs early by ramming into something, but what can you expect of a little buckling? :) We'll be cutting off his testosterone supply shortly, so hopefully he'll stop humping everything in sight.

On the agenda for today:
- more laundry! Always more laundry....
- send out packages at the PO
- add algae killer and more Cl to the pool so it's ready to be closed for the winter (BEFORE leaf fall this year!)
- Finish this worksheet
- take some pictures with old camera
