A Possibilty

We've been to this house twice - it seems to be what
we're looking for, even though it's at the top of our price range. Close by to
the town center - no stores, but the library, town hall, municipal center,
elementary school...., and there's a deli nearby that sells groceries. It's on 5
acres, but is next to a VERY large tree farm, so there could be the possibility
of buying an additional acre down the road to get farm assessed. It's a
managable commute for both E and I - E will be in court a lot, so who knows
where he'll be headed every day, but at least it's a straight shot to the main
office ad there's the train, and park and ride to NYC. The house is a 3 BR
ranch, NO CARPETS! (yay!), a big basement with plenty of room for more bedrooms
as we keep reproducing *grin*, and a fenced in area for the dogs - it's all in
good shape and the current owner just bought it last year, but is getting
divorced and moving. I think my main priority would be to dig up the oil tank -
it's insured, but why not just take it out so we don't have to worry about it
any more. When those things leak it's an absolute nightmare... There' s even
solar hot water, though the current owner disconnected it since there was a drip
coming from the tank. Fruit trees (apple and pear - need some pruning), grapes,
nice new barn she built with a paddock, land is all cleared - all of that might
make it worth the extra couple hundred dollars a month since I could start the
CSA right away. We're working on the financing thing - hopefully we'll be able
to make an offer. I'll keep you
posted!
In other news, our first batch
of ketchup is simmering away - I pureed a gallon or so of skinned tomatoes
(mostly san marzanos), then added vinegar, sugar, salt, and onion and garlic
powder. I'm trying to go for a generic Heinz type ketchup, so I didn't add any
of the old fashioned ingredients like allspice, etc. We're going to make french
fries from our potatoes tonight and try it out! Now off to make some toasted
bread rounds for the bruschetta I made for a cousin's b-day bbq today - I used
tomatoes, basil, and grilled eggplant from the garden instead of the
tomato-basil-onion combo - we'll see how it is - it smells good!
