It may seem boastful to call Wisconsin an Earth Scientist's paradise when compared to the exposed geology of the western United States. However, the "Badger State" - a nickname from its lead mining past - is a great place to study all the major branches of Earth Science. Wisconsin lends itself to the study of geology, meteorology, astronomy, climatogy, and environmental science. Even oceanographic principles can be observed in action here, given our proximity to the Great Lakes, "inland seas" with fresh water that can display many of the physical features found in and near our Earth's salty oceans.

Since we only have a week for this virtual field trip I will only cover the highlights of central and southern Wisconsin. Northern Wisconsin holds its own Earth Science secrets for another time. Once you visit my adopted state I know it will be easy for you to return and explore it further. In Wisconsin you're among friends - I hope you enjoy your journey!
