- Eileen Paris and Tom Paris created The Parenting Process
out of personal necessity. Divorced after their son was only one year old,
Tom and Eileen, devastated and disillusioned, knew they had to keep the
promise they had made to themselves and to each other years before: to
maintain an intimate relationship with their son. As therapists, Tom and
Eileen had resources other divorcing parents didn't. They drew on existing
developmental psychology, emerging infant research, and object relation
theories to develop The Parenting Process and turn it into a method
parents and other therapists can apply every day.
