ESSENTIAL QUESTION: What is the connection between physics and my favorite activity?

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Eighth grade science students will work collaboratively with at least 2 other students, grouped by the facilitating teacher based on specific, known student skills and needs. Groups will then discuss and decide on which activity(ies), such as soccer, biking, dancing, or skateboarding, that they would like to explore for their individual movies.

After choosing their activity, students must find and explain how the 14 standard examples of force and motion (Newton's 3 laws, velocity, speed, the 3 types of acceleration, gravity, momentum, centripetal/centrifugal force, and the 3 types of friction) are demonstrated in that activity.

Finally, students will use iBooks, iMovie, iTunes, and PowerPoint to create a 3-minute iMovie with soundtrack. Each collaborative group will produce one 10 slide PowerPoint, which demonstrates their understanding of the 14 principles and how they are illustrated in their chosen activity. The movies and slideshows will be presented in class to a student audience.
