Welcome!
This web site is intended to be a resource for UAHS IB
Music students, their parents, and their teachers. The site
was created for current IB Music students and UAHS students
considering enrollment. The breadth and depth of the IB
Music curriculum is mirrored by the content of this site.
The study of music allows a student to study the pulse of
life. IB music utilizes four basic strands (perception,
creative expression/performance, historical and cultural
heritage, and critical evaluation) to provide broad
unifying structures for organizing the studentís acquired
knowledge and skills. It is through this study of music
that a student develops intellect and refines emotions, an
understanding of culture, the creative nature of musical
artistry, and the connections among music, related arts,
technology, and other aspects of social life.
Participation in creative musical performance allows
students apply the expressive technical skills of music and
critical thinking skills to evaluate multiple forms of
problem solving. IB music allows a student to be submerged
in the art form and to study what defines us as human.
This site provides future UAHS IB Music students a copy of
the class audit and handbook (see "Sl and HL info"). Additionally,
students considering the IB Music class should listen to
the "Composition", "Solo" and "Group" examples before deciding which
SL area is right for them.
For current IB Music students, "What did we do today?" is a daily
blog that outlines the lesson plan for each class. The
"Calendar" page has monthly calendars
which will help students keep track of musical
investigation deadlines and assist with long term
planning. "Class Notes" is the collection of
outlines/notes for the class lectures and presentations.
"Review Materials" is a collection of
the western art music presentations. Use this page to
review for tests or to see what you missed if you were
absent. The "UAIBMusic Library" is a card catalog
of resource material students can find in the classroom
(sometimes, the answers to questions can be found right
under your nose). Check out the "Links" to explore related sites. Here
you can can download software, search Grove, listen to
steaming world music, sharpen your music theory skills,
and develop your aural skills. The "Columbus Performance" page provides
links to professional ensembles in the area. This will
help you find concerts to attend to complete you concert
critiques.
Again, welcome. Feel free to explore. Drop me line if you
have any questions about the class.
Best wishes.
