VENUS FLYTRAPS

Hi, my name is Mary. I have three dogs, nine fish, and a VENUS FLYTRAP!!. Well a Venus Flytrap isn't really "pet" so called, but here's some info on them:

Venus Flytraps have what are refered to as "teeth" on the top edges of the plant. Inside of the bowl-shaped leaves are other black and red hairs. When a small bug runs across these hairs it triggers the trap closed causing the bug to be trapped in the bowl as the leaves squeeze the juice out of the bug. After about a day the trap will re-open and a breeze will blow what is left of the bug.

You want to provide your trap will sunshine and lots of humidity BUT do not leave it in a closed container. If it is left in a closed container the heat will build up and you will find that you have "roasted" your plant. Place your Venus Flytrap in a sunny window, if the center of the plant is red your light and temperature conditions are good for your plant, if the center of the plant is green, try moving it to another window with more light.

Don't be surprised when you Venus flytrap turns black and starts to rot, a new one will soon sprout. A Venus Flytrap can only open it's trap three to four times in it's life. Then it will lose it's ability to close.

Some of the bugs a Venus Flytrap will eat are as followed; millipedes, earwigs, flies and other medium sized bugs. Don't feed you plant fatty food such as a hamburger becausee it will rot.

Provide your trap with lots of sunshine and be careful with it. THEY ARE AWSOME!
