As the weather slowly warms up and
Spring has sprung, many of us are anxious to try out our new golf clubs
or tennis racket or begin a running program to help shed the weight
we put on during the holidays and long winter. It's great to become
more active but it can also lead to a common, easily managed problem
for your feet, blisters. A blister appears when friction and
heat buildup on the skin and cause a separation of skin layers accompanied
by fluid buildup. The following suggestions address the care and prevention
of blisters.

Care
1. Wear shoes that fit correctly
1. Do not drain blisters or
cut skin flaps
2. Wear two pairs of socks
2. Thoroughly clean blisters
with soap and water or an antibacterial solucion such as Betadine.
3. Break in new pairs
of shoes
3. Apply an antibiotic ointment
4. Beware of hot spots, areas
of friction that have not developed into a blister.
4. Cover with a band-aid
5. Apply Vaseline or skin
lube to reduce the friction
5. Use a piece of adhesive
foam cut into a donut. Shape and place over the blister to
relieve the pressure.
