galium aparine

i’ve watched you clinging
splayed to others
whispering in shadows
you tonic, scratchy diuretic
fingered slow creeper
slept through
dewly dappled sunlight
innocuous and smart
you goose grass
you friendly cleavers

in the grove

keening six days past the moon
cloaked with white, setting the wards

if you place the altar to the east
to bestow spirit
beyond the elements...
the fifth sacred thing
if you face the four corners
in reverence
with honour... projecting peace
if you drink at the wellspring
and cherish no outcome
if you believe you are

you who travel well
and tread lightly
spark the flame
offer garnered blessings
and in the end
when you expect nothing
prepare for all

litter patrol

plentiful grey clouds
shower me
their love tickles me
with patter
against my yellow slicker
i remove scattered bits
from the woods
gum wrappers, straws, bottles...
every imaginable plastic thing
it’s cold and i’m dirty
from scrambling
in the mud
but i feel good
