Posted at 10:31 AM Sat - May 14, 2005CAT Long Course Invitational, day 2Today I swam the 50 meter free, 100 meter fly,
and 200 meter I.M. In the 50 free, I got 29.10, which is a Sectional time, and
less than a quarter of a second off Kyle's time. In the 100 fly, my time was 1:15.
Three seconds off my converted time, but the conversions aren't accurate. In my
200 I.M., I got 2:47. Only a second improvement from my converted time, but as I
said, the conversions aren't accurate.
Posted at 08:37 PM Fri - May 13, 2005CAT Long Course Invitational, day 1I swam the 200 meter free today, and my time was
2:24. The conversion says I had a 2:21 before, but it's not very accurate; it's
really all mental, so seeing that you still have another 25 meters to go in a
long course pool when you should be at the wall is intimidating.
Posted at 09:19 PM OS 10.4 TigerI now have Tiger! Dashboard is worth the price of the whole thing. And the new version of Mail and iChat are really cool. Safari RSS is also really neat. Posted at 09:14 PM Tue - May 10, 2005Apple mosaicUsing 30 different Apple-related images and MozoDojo,
I created (okay, MozoDojo created) this Apple
poster.
Posted at 04:00 PM Sat - May 7, 2005Weyerhaeuser Invitational, day 250 meter freestyle - I got 1st in this event, and my time was 30.30. According to the heat sheets, it wasn't a best time, but I don't think the conversion was accurate (they had to convert the time from short course yards to long course meters), because the other people weren't beating the times on the heat sheets either. 200 meter backstroke - I didn't do very well in this event, even though I got a best time, because my old time was from last year. I think the time I got was 2:55. 400 meter freestyle - I got 2nd, with a time of 5:04. The Naugladite (aka Andrew) beat me by 1 second! We were right with each other for the first 300 meters, then he pulled about one body-length ahead at the end. Posted at 06:47 PM Fri - May 6, 2005Weyerhaeuser Invitational, day 1I swam the 800 meter freestyle today, and my time
was 10:28. That's an A time by six seconds, and about a minute off a Zone time.
I beat Adam by about 2 tenths of a
second!
More tomorrow... Posted at 08:01 PM Wed - May 4, 2005Bearcat awards ceremonyToday was the Bearcat awards ceremony. There was
a projected movie that showed different meets and swimmers, and the coaches gave
a talk and addressed all the groups. Also, everyone got Bearcat patches, and
some people got plaques. (If you get 20 best times in one stroke you get a
plaque, and if you get 20 in another stroke you get an attachment for your
plaque.)
Of course, since they were using Windows to control the movie, there was a delay in getting it started because they couldn't figure something out. I'm not exactly sure what it was; I think they couldn't get the movie to show up on the screen (aka wall). People were calling for me to help them set it up, but I didn't because I'm not used to Windows. Next time, I'll bring my Mac and there won't be a delay...! Posted at 08:39 PM Ahh! Morning practice!Distance: 5200+
yards
I came to morning practice this morning because we don't have evening practice tonight, courtesy of the awards ceremony. I had to get up at 4:00am because practice started at 5:00. Our main set was 4x250's @ 3:25, 4x250's @ 3:20, 4x250's @ 3:15, 4x250's @ 3:10 (but Kate made us do the first two of the last set on the 3:05). For the last ten minutes of practice we had to tie stretch cords to the blocks and then harness them around ourselves, and swim out as far as we could without being snapped back. Posted at 08:19 AM Mon - May 2, 2005Ancient computerI had an ancient computer just sitting behind a
sofa, but I haven't succeeded in booting it up yet because of the "Keyboard
error, press F1 to resume". (I haven't found a keyboard for it yet because it
has nothing but serial ports.) So I decided to take it apart to see how
fast/slow it is and how much RAM it
has.
4 1MB RAM chips, 4 4 Megabit SIMM chips. Which makes 4.0002 MB RAM. 33MHz processor with a 14.31818MHz bus. 250MB hard drive. Posted at 01:41 PM Sun - May 1, 2005Inexplicable error messagesThis is why I will never use Windows
95.
And yes, that error is real. Posted at 08:26 PM Sun - April 24, 2005Monster CookieWe went on the Monster Cookie ride today, a 64
mile bike ride where you get monster cookies at the end. There is a rest stop at
the 15 mile point, and a lunch stop halfway though. Because it's a loop, you
stop at the rest stop twice. It took us about 6 hours, including stops. I got 3
flats within 15 miles! Then we found on the tire was old and cracking, and none
of the stops had any spare tires, so my mom dropped out and let me use her
bike.
Trying to change the tube. I was completely covered with mud and grime when we finished. But as the name suggests, I got two monster cookies at the end! Posted at 04:25 PM Sat - April 23, 2005Morning practice in AlbanyDistance: 4550
meters
We practiced with the Albany swim club for 2 hours this morning, because they have a long-course pool. We swam about 3 miles. We did a 1500 meter warmup, and our main set was 1x100 @ 1:30, 50 easy @ 2:00, 2x100's @ 1:30, 50 easy @ 2:00, 3x100's @ 1:30, 50 easy @ 2:00, 4x100 @ 1:30, 50 easy @ 2:00, and go back down again starting from the 3x100's. Also, we did 2x200's tombstone. Posted at 11:08 AM Thu - April 21, 2005New languageI've decided REALbasic isn't flexible enough... So I'm learning C. I don't know if I'll be able to do it in 21 days, but it will be easier since I already have background in REALbasic. Posted at 03:27 PM Sat - April 16, 2005Olympic Swim ClinicNo morning practice today, because we went to the
Olympic Swim
Clinic at Echo Hollow pool in Eugene,
featuring Amanda
Beard (2004 Olympic Gold Medalist and Double Silver Medalist) and
Kaitlin
Sandeno (2004 Gold, Silver and Bronze Medalist)! There was a movie of
different international swimming events, and they gave a talk and coached us in
the water for 45 minutes. Also, everyone got goodie bags. I think there were
about 350 people there.
Posted at 04:02 PM Tue - April 12, 2005Sat - April 9, 2005Magellan eXplorist 300I bought a Magellan eXplorist 300! I've only been able to test it for a few minutes outside so far, but it works really well. Also, it has an electronic compass, so you don't have to be moving for it to work, a thermometer, and a barometer which also gives the barometric altitude. And it has 16MB of built-in maps. And for the best part... it's waterproof! Posted at 10:04 PM Bright and early swimOne more stroke of breaststroke and I'll fall
apart...! Our main set at the end of practice was a 400, a 300, a 200 and a 100.
Three times. One backstroke, one breaststroke, and one free-fly by 25's. So a
1000 backstroke, 1000 breaststroke, and 1000 free-fly. And I forgot the rest of
practice... I'm too tired to remember it. At least now we get a break for... one
day...
Posted at 10:20 AM Fri - April 8, 2005Swim practiceI haven't been blogging very much lately because
I've been so tired from swim practice. We've had harder practices before, but
I'm just not used to 4 hard practices in a row. We have morning practice
tomorrow from 7:00 to 9:00am. Kate said it will be easier, but...
Posted at 02:11 PM Tue - April 5, 2005Start of the swimming seasonI know this entry is a day late, but yesterday
was the start of the swimming season, after a two week break. And I've been
moved up to the Senior group, as well as Adam, Sheila and Alex. Our senior
practice was really hard today! I don't remember what the whole thing was, but
we had a set near the end that was 8 75's I.M. transition drill @ 1:15, 4 75's
I.M. transition swim on the 1:10, and 4 75's I.M. transition swim on the
1:05.
