That is not a secret that in a job of designer (as well as many others dealed with computers) there are a lot of boring and repeatable tasks when you need to do several operations of the same kind on different data.
I always missed during my experience on Mac possibility to program in a simple way such tasks. Not long ago I have opened for myself AppleScript and since that time I became a great fun of it. It's the nicest tool to control programs not only by means of mouse and keyboard but also through a set of instructions on a clear language, powerful and flexible way of automation and optimization of usual tasks.
It came out so that it is easier and better to write some instructions on almost "native" English" as spend time searching for different programs, utilities, extentions, etc. And not mentioning the fact that you very often need to change fonts, rename files, export QuarkXPress documents page by page in EPS format and so on. Very often I used Actions (for example in Photoshop). Unfortunately they can not work on conditions and take parameters.
Further you can find different utilities for DTP-programs and Finder and scripts which I did to make my life easier. All of them have their own drawbacks, but I have not seen something like that by time when I created them. And it was more effective to write a script for a particular task as look for some other tool. All of them help me to make my everyday tasks in a better and easier way. If they will help to somebody else I will be happy. In folder "Documentation" you can find step-by-step instructions on how to use them. Some comments on scripts are located on a script's page near every one.
All of them work under classical version of MacOS starting from MacOS 8.5. You will need also to have installed AppleScript in stadart configuration, QuickDraw 3D.
You must have write permissions for a disk so if you have versions on disk image you must copy them to hard drive first.
And also take into consideration that all these stuff about copyrights, about viruses and so is missing, they are not taught to make damage to your system :-)).
But I don't want to be responsible if during your work with these scripts you computer hangs or becomes damaged, if you coffee boils away, if it starts to rain or your girl leaves you. |
